Watch: Kimora Lee Simmons Reveals Why She Really Returned to Reality TV
It’s not just a comeback—Kimora Lee Simmons has always been the epitome of fierceness. After stepping away from TV for 15 years, the former model turned fashion mogul is making her reality TV return with E!’s new series Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane—joining the ranks of exciting reality shows this season as highlighted in 本季美剧与真人秀新作看点盘点—and she’s here to reassert her status as the ultimate runway ruler.
The visionary behind Baby Phat first rose to fame at just 13, when the legendary late Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld personally selected the St. Louis-born teen as his muse, launching her onto the global catwalk scene. In a 2019 chat with Teen Vogue, Kimora opened up about Lagerfeld’s profound impact: “Karl changed my life completely—he’s the reason I am who I am now. When I was a young teen from a small Midwest town, he gave me the chance to spread my wings. Other casting agents called me ugly and said I’d never make it in modeling, but Karl saw something no one else did. He wasn’t afraid to take a chance on a multi-ethnic girl walking the Parisian runways, which was unheard of back then.”

Thirty years later, the 50-year-old notes that the push for diversity and inclusivity in fashion is still a critical topic we’re discussing today. Bursting onto the fashion scene in the early 1990s, Kimora soon became a household name as a style icon, walking for luxury brands like Fendi, Yves Saint Laurent, and Valentino, and gracing the covers of top-tier magazines such as Vogue and Elle. Decades later, as a mother of five, Kimora still treats her role as a style icon with the utmost dedication.

In the premiere of Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane (airing December 2), she shares: “I’m a businesswoman first, but being a celebrity and a fashion icon is also part of my job—and I absolutely love it. What makes it even better is that my kids get to join me on this journey.” Unsurprisingly, Kimora’s oldest daughters Ming (25) and Aoki (23) have followed in her stylish footsteps, building their own modeling careers—and fans will get to see their journey when the family returns to reality TV. Kimora is also a mom to Kenzo (16), Gary (16), and Wolfe (10).
